Harvest
2015

Harvest was shot in the National Botanic Gardens (Dublin) and follows a character as he waters the plants in the large enclosed green house. The location is never identified nor does the character ever speak, giving no clues as to whether the film is the document of an action or a work of fiction. In the opening scenes we see the character wire a plant with contact microphones, which we later learn records the sound of the water hitting the plants surface. The character then conducts the methodical work in stoic silence and we are left to wonder what is the role of the recording. The recorded sound slowly emerges in the soundtrack as the wired plant is doused, effectively allowing the viewer to listen to the plant as it 'experiences' the sensation of the water. As the sound intensifies and the green house fills with moisture, the environment appears to return, momentarily to a primordial state.
